It’s official the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone series is a hit here in the US as the manufacture confirmed it has shipped it’s one millionth device.  As the current title holder of No. 1 mobile provider in the U.S., the announcement had little shock value, but it does prove the growing thirst for Android 2.1 smartphones in the states.  Samsung Mobile began shipping the Galaxy S series on July 15, but what really makes the 1 million mark impressive is that Samsung Mobile has managed to do this with one two carriers – At&t and T-mobile.

Currently the Vibrant and Captivate are the only two Galaxy S smartphones here in the US, but the Sprint Epic 4G is coming on August 31 and Verizon Wireless will launch their device later this fall.  U.S. Cellular and Cellular South are also confirmed to be launching Galaxy S smartphones this year which brings us to undeniable question – how many millions of Galaxy S smartphones will Samsung Mobile ship to the U.S. in 2010?

If I had to throw out a number, logically speaking I believe 2 million units is a safe assumption.  The Sprint Epic 4G has received rave reviews from various tech outlets and as we wait for our review unit to arrive in the mail, we only expect the hype to grow.  Engadget Mobile writer Tnk Grl called the keyboard on the Epic 4G, as good or better than the industry standard, Touch Pro 2.  In any event, congratulations to Samsung Mobile and the Galaxy S portfolio.
