By the end of 2011 a new game from Red 5 Studios will emerge, mixing the MMO of World of Warcraft with a shooter like Tribes, this game will be Firefall. Headed by CEO and Chief Creative Officer Mark Kern, lead designer of World of Warcraft, and Scott Youngblood, former lead designer of Tribes, Firefall looks to create the first massive team-based shooter. The game will be equal parts large-scale cooperation and intense competitive multiplayer that brings hundreds of players together in a way we’ve never seen for a shooter.
When I founded Red 5, I knew I wanted to do something different than anything I’d done before.” says CEO and Chief Creative Officer Mark Kern. “I wanted to take the best of what I learned making online games and bring that to skill-based shooters.”
Nothing sells a game the way gameplay footage does so let’s cut to the chase. If you enjoy the video below then we highly recommend that you sign up for the Firefall beta. While the game will not be released online for the PC until the end of 2011, the beta will be critical to the overall game development if Red 5 Studios hopes to attack this new genre of gaming
So there you have it, a first look at Firefall. This might be exactly what first-person shooter fans need as they gradually adopt MMO-style games. You can count us in for this Beta, the gameplay footage wins our seal of approval and two thumbs up.
