One of the many perks to having a Disneyland Season Pass is Innoventions, a central hub for futuristic technology located next to Space Mountain.  In my recent visit to Disneyland I decided to peruse through Innoventions in hopes of seeing some new technology since my last visit.  Low and behold on the second level I found myself staring at three 2011 Honda CR-Vs, the world’s first affordable sports car hybrid. The CR-Z combines a hybrid gasoline-electric power train with traditional sports car elements.  The car is powered by a 1.5 L (92 cu in) i-VTEC inline-4 engine, designated as LEA, with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid-electric system. A six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is available.

First Impressions

Overall I found myself enjoying the interior and exterior of the CR-Z. Despite the compact sports car title I had no problem fitting my 6′ 2″ 240lb frame inside with plenty of leg and headroom. All three of the cars on display were EX models, complete with navigation and an upgraded sound system.  The standard model and EX model are priced at $19,200 and $20,760 respectively.  Gas mileage is not as futuristic as I would have hoped, but at 35 city and 39 highway I still consider if a healthy upgrade from my current 15/19 situation.
