The tech world is in quite a frenzy over the Jungle, a portable gaming system developed by Panasonic Cloud Entertainment. Through a website and social media explosion, the Panasonic Jungle hardware was announced last night, but most details remain close to the hip. What we know about the Jungle is that it may have an attractive screen and that someone at MTV wrote a song about it; not exactly the nitty gritty technical specifications we were hoping for considering the impending PSP refresh and Nintendo 3DS launch next year.
Beyond the high-resolution screen, the Panasonic Jungle has a keyboard along with a touchpad and a directional pad. Gizmodo ran some pictures of the devices, alongside rumors that it had a nice screen, ran Linux and was designed for online gaming. As far as content goes, the new website and viral video hitting YouTube announces a brand-new Battlestar Galactica MMO, a show by Machinima.com and the promise that they “are online gaming”.
Until we have some solid specs and more details about launch titles and the whole online gaming ecosystem, the Panasonic Jungle has some big shoes to fill. The Nintendo DS, PSP and iOS devices combine to dominate portable and online portable gaming at this time so the Panasonic Jungle will really need some remarkable features, launch titles, specs and price tag, if it hopes to make a notable impact. Until we find out more (or any) information about the Panasonic Jungle, we leave you with the Panasonic Jungle Website, where you can watch the viral video and sign up for updates.
