Following the Oct. 12 release of Medal of Honor on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC here in the US, the game is now on sale in the UK despite much opposition. Back in August, Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox called for the game to be banned after it emerged that users could fight as The Taliban. Eventually “The Taliban” were renamed “The Opposition” and pulled from the multiplayer game mode. With 150,000 American, British and Allied troops fighting in Afghanistan, many still feel that the game should have never been released.
Here in the U.S., Medal of Honor remains banned from sale at military bases, but troops can purchase the game off grounds if they choose. Many insiders actually believe the Taliban option in multiplayer was simply a marketing ploy to drive additional media coverage. The shoes of Call of Duty are tough to fill, especially with the upcoming release of Black Ops on Nov. 9. Whatever the case may be, Medal of Honor is now on sale in the UK and it has a long road before hitting the $1bn in sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
