Iomega Intros 64GB to 256GB External USB 3.0 SSD Drives

It’s no secret, if you want the fastest hard drive for your rig you’ll need a Solid State Drive (SSD).  Iomega today announced their new line of external SSD drives featuring USB 3.0 connectivity and capacities of 64GB to 256GB.  The combination of a SSD drive and USB 3.0 connectivity results in drive performance that doubles most 7200RPM internal hard drives.  To put the speed difference of USB 2.0 versus 3.0 into perspective simply look at the theoretical maximums, 480Mbps and 4.8Gbps respectively, a 10x improvement.  In real world tests USB 2.0 is roughly 66 percent efficient so max data throughput would top out at 40MB/s while USB 3.0 would hit 400MB/s, more than enough capacity for even the fastest SSD.

The Iomega External SSD Flash Drives will be available in early November, and will be priced at $229.00 for 64GB, $399 for 128GB, and $749.00 for 256GB. All Iomega products come with a three-year limited warranty.
