Netflix for Nintendo Wii Now Disc Free

A native Netflix app for the Nintendo Wii is now available, effectively making the Netflix discs obsolete.  Following on the heels of the PS3 firmware update released this morning, Nintendo is hoping that the native Netflix app will bring more users to the platform.  Of course the only problem with using your Nintendo Wii as your Netflix player on your HDTV is that it only offers a maximum of 480P output.  If high definition output is a priority then we recommend turning to the PS3 or Xbox 360 for your 1080P output.  Although I’m pretty sure most Nintendo Wii owners purchased the console knowing that HD output would not be possible.

In order to start using your Netflix account on your Nintendo Wii sans disc you’ll need to download the free Netflix app in the Wii Shop channel.  This will add Netflix to your Wii Menu allowing for quick access to streaming.  If you have a Nintendo Wii, but are not a Netflix subscriber you can join today for just $8.99 a month by visiting the Netflix website.  There is also currently a 30-day trial which will allow plenty of time for you to test drive the service prior to starting a billing cycle.
